San Rafael, California - The Penguins moved to 2-1 overall this past weekend after winning both matches in the Paseo Tournament in Arizona. To get warmed up after the flight to Arizona the lady Penguins took action in an exhibition game against Mesa Community College where they won 6-3.
Next up was their first Division 2 opponent of the tournament in Western New Mexico University. The Penguins earned their first win of the spring season with a decisive 8-1 victory over the Mustangs. Emily Prescott, Chloe Vicari, Irini Morozova, Kelly Zwicker, and Francesca Katafias were victorious in both their respective singles and doubles events powering the penguins to the 8-1 victory.
Dominican wrapped up their short Arizona road trip with a matchup against PacWest foe, Chaminade University. The Silver Swords were no match for the Penguins as Dominican extended their win streak to two games with a convincing 7-2 victory. Morozova wrapped up a perfect weekend, winning in doubles with partner Caitlin Aloia (9-8, 7-1) and in singles (6-4, 6-1). Katafias also capped off a successful weekend with wins in her doubles and singles event.
With two straight wins the Penguins are back over .500 as they get ready for conference play and the start of a four match home stand. PacWest play opens up next Friday, February 21st against Academy of Art University at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center on the Dominican campus.
