This has been a busy offseason for the San Rafael Pacifics, signing a number of pitchers that will improve an already impressive rotation.
The Pacifics first signed Burlingame native and Serra High School standout, Chuck Lofgren. The Cleveland Indians originally drafted Lofgren in the 4th round in 2004. He is a 6-4, 220 lb. left-hander who has played in every minor league system, from A to AAA.
In 2010 Lofgren signed a contract with San Francisco’s AAA team, the Fresno Grizzlies. There he attempted a switch from pitcher to first baseman/outfielder. Lofgren most recently pitched for the Brisbane Bandits from the Australian Baseball League.
The Pacifics also signed the 2012 Pitcher of the Year, Jesse Smith. He is an 11-year veteran who defeated the Pacifics 6-1 in last year’s Pacific Association Championship game pitching for the Maui Na Koa Ikaika.
Smith was a 6th round draft pick for the Angels in 2003, where he played 6 years in their minor league system. He was an all-star for the AA Travelers in 2006, and also pitched for the AAA Salt Lake Bees for two years.
The Pacifics also signed former first round Angels draft pick, Jon Buchanov. Buchanov was ranked as the Angels #19 prospect after the 2009 season. The 6’5” Orlando, FL native also pitched for the White Sox’s AA team in 2011 and 2012.
